Tenacity Act 9: Training the next generation of communicators
Who are they?
The uOttawa Public Relations Association (uOPRA) is a student organization focused on organizing professional development and networking events. Founded in 2012, this volunteer group holds a well-attended conference every March, which brings together students from across Ottawa to hear from industry professionals and community leaders.
Why did MediaStyle want to help?
It’s important to support the next generation of communicators, especially those who volunteer their time to make the campus experience better for their classmates.
Senior Strategist Ryan Kennery has spoken at uOPRA’s annual conference several times in the past, which includes communications and public relations students from most of Ottawa’s post-secondary institutions.
“Mentoring and collaborating with students is always so energizing. We’re delighted to support these hard-working student leaders from the University of Ottawa.”
— Ryan Kennery, Senior Strategist, MediaStyle
How are we helping?
We will hold a half-day workshop for student leaders, focused on nonprofits and campaigns. These topics were chosen by the uOPRA executive team as the most meaningful to them. The skills the students learn at the workshop will be helpful as they organize a large conference in March 2019, which hopes to attract students from the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College, and La Cité collégiale. MediaStyle will also be participating in the event to share knowledge and insight with the attendees.
This is one of our Ten Acts of Tenacity, commemorating MediaStyle’s 10th anniversary. Throughout January, we will be announcing a series of donations, fundraising initiatives, and pro-bono support aimed at celebrating those making change in our community. This is our way of saying “thank you” to all those who have supported us in during our first decade in business.
