Tiger Woods isn’t the only apology in the news. A New Brunswick MLA has landed in hot water over a sexist Facebook status update. Carl Urquhart fired off a missive about the recent provincial budget and it backfired. Badly.

As the Canadian Press is reporting:

A Tory member of the New Brunswick legislature has apologized for writing on his Facebook page that women should make more babies.

In responding to the provincial budget Tuesday, Carl Urquhart posted on Facebook: “Another Liberal budget … Another $1 billion on the debt by March … Girls we need more babies or we will never be able to support our future.”
Liberal member Joan MacAlpine-Stiles told the legislature Wednesday that she found the comment offensive.

Here is how Canadian Press reports the response:

“If my good friend was offended, I don’t mind apologizing to her and I would withdraw whatever she was offended by,” he said.
And the kicker:

“He said he’ll be posting fewer comments online in the future.”

He might as well have said “I’m oblivious” and it seems the only lesson this MLA learned was, apparently, use Facebook less?

I think I might have a better starting point for MLA Carl Urquhart:

“I’ll stop making sexist comments regardless of the medium.”
