One of Ottawa’s best blogger/micro-bloggers is Susan Murphy.  Not only because her content rocks and she makes fun of local TV and has a very quick wit, but because she also has a huge heart.  When she recently posted about a TV interview she did for CTV news on an amazing initiative she helped kick off.  I thought I’d hand the blog to her:

The 12for12k Challenge is a year long fundraiser that hopes to raise $12,000 per month for charity through social networks.  Tech Now is Ottawa’s only local technology news program.  Host Paul Brent dropped by Overlay.tv’s offices last week to speak with Susan Murphy, Kneale Mann, and Rob Lane about their participation in the project.

CTV Ottawa Tech Now features 12for12k from Sue Murphy on Vimeo.

And, a bit more on the project from the 12for12k site:

The 12for12k Challenge is the combination of social media and fund-raising that aims to change the lives of millions worldwide.  Its aim is to raise a minimum of $144,000 for 12 charities over the course of 2009, with a new charity being supported every month.  All proceeds raised go directly to the chosen charities.

The concept is simple:

  • 12 months of the year
  • 12 charities, a different charity each month
  • $12,000 per charity

Special thanks to Susan for passing along the intro/link.  And, for her instrumental role in getting 12for12k up and running.
