I was reminded yesterday there is secret to getting re-elected in Canadian politics. Amazing constituency staff. These are the people on the front lines of real Canadian issues.  Economic downturn in the news?  The people bad economic news touches are sitting with constituency staff working out next steps.  If you read about it in the community newspaper today; chances are the amazing constituency staff person would have known about it last week.  They are connectors in the community.  They have a feel for the mood and pulse of their community.  They are constantly feeding information back to their elected member.

I think the real secret to getting re-elected is directly related to who politicians decide to place in the community to represent them.
