When Judy Maddren wrote to the CBC in 1965 asking what education she would need to be a radio announcer, she received a letter in return.  The letter stated, “Thank you, we have many talented gentlemen who do that work.”  Nearly 45 year later, Maddren is handing over the morning microphone at CBC Radio after 16 years as the voice of CBC Radio’s flagship newscast:  World Report.  Here is how she signed off in Eastern Canada:

After two weeks off, Maddren will be continuing her love of storytelling with a business called Soundportraits.  Now the only question remains, who will tell the CBC how to pronounce complicated words?
